The Meizu X2 is coming with Snapdragon 845

Meizu VP Li Nan was recently quoted as disclosing that the tech giant will launch the Meizu X2 and that it would feature a Snapdragon 845 chip onboard. Now, in case you don’t know much about the smartphone, the X2 is supposed to be the successor to the Meizu X which was launched in 2016.

There were rumors about a Meizu X2 from all the way back in November of 2016. While they have failed to sprout fruit, but Meizu has been intent on keeping promises to launch new devices such as the PRO 7.

Meizu released the M6s last month, a budget device that did a lot of things right—on paper, at least. Meizu also has a premium device in the works, in the form of the Meizu 15 Plus—to be released in commemoration of the company's 15-year anniversary.Li Nan confirmed that the Meizu X2 won’t be a mid range phone but rather a flagship. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. The VP also gave a tentative release timeline of late 2018 caused due to some delays

Meizu seems so to have finally taken the Qualcomm route, which should be a welcome development to fans, as the company's romance with MediaTek was getting a tad tedious. That still doesn't change much right now, however, as community development is still lackluster, even for popular devices like the Snapdragon 625-powered M6 Note. We can only hope that changes with time, as software is considered by most to be the OEM's most significant weakness.

Although there’s not a lot of reports about the Meizu X2, the few leaks that have been reported hint towards a design different from the usual aesthetic of the current smartphones. Renders that had appeared back in October hinted towards a circular secondary display on the back and an unconventional camera design.

With the Meizu 15 and 15 Plus in the pipeline, Meizu already has a lot on their hands. There are rumors that the E3 will also be launched in the coming days, although there is no solid proof regarding the same. Right now, all we can do is speculate whether the X2 will live up to the expectations set by its predecessor. Stay tuned!
