Meizu today announced that it will introduced Meizu S6, a new mid-range smartphone in the new ‘S series’ in China on January 17th. The company already confirmed that it will feature an 18:9 display. AnTuTu listing reveals that it will be powered by upcoming Hexa-Core Samsung Exynos 7872 SoC with Mali-G71 GPU, come with HD+ screen and Android 7.0 (Nougat) OS.
Earlier rumors revealed a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 display, side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 2930mAh battery. No word on the cameras yet.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Meizu recently announced a launch event for its first smartphone with an 18:9 screen, and it will happen on January 4th in China. Now, the company has sent out yet another media invite for the launch of a new smartphone, the Meizu S6. The smartphone is rumoured to offer a larger display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It’s also being rumoured that Meizu might announce more details about its upcoming flagship smartphones at the event, including a partnership with Samsung to use its Exynos chipsets in mid-range as well as high-end smartphones.
Speaking about the Meizu S6, not much is known about the device right now. However, some believe that the smartphone will be a trimmed down version of the upcoming M6S, but featuring the same 5.7-inch 18:9 display. It’s also being rumoured that Meizu will use Samsung’s mid-range smartphone chipset, the Exynos 7872, instead of commonly used MediaTek chipset inside this upcoming smartphone. The Meizu S6 could be launched in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the other which comes packed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The Meizu S6 could get rid of the company’s proprietary mBack physical home button. It is being believed that the company will use a side-mounted fingerprint reader, similar to Xperia smartphones, for the S6. The smartphone will compete with the newly launched Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China. In addition to this smartphone, Meizu might also announce a new product logo and an official website “mblu.com”. It might also reveal its plans for an upcoming smart home product as well as sales service in China.
This year, Meizu will be also launch a high-end smartphone for the Indian market for the first time. It will launch the Meizu M6 Note and the Meizu Pro 7 smartphones in India soon. The exact launch dates of these smartphones have not been revealed by the company yet, but we expect to hear back from Meizu in the next few days.
