Meizu has confirmed that the successor to its MX6 smartphone won't be arriving this year. There have been rumors that the MX7 will debut in 2017, but the a top Meizu executive has thrown cold water on them by confirming 2018 unveiling for the device.
Some images surfaced at the end of last month, suggesting that the Meizu MX7 will launch on October 11, but a new piece of info claims that the phone will not launch until next year. Yang Zhe, Meizu’s Senior Vice President, said on Weibo that the Meizu MX7 will not debut before Spring of 2018, which probably means that the company plans to launch it at the end of Q1 next year, or perhaps even beginning of Q2.
The company’s Senior Vice President Yang Zhe took it to Weibo to reveal that the MX7 will be made official in spring of 2018. Interestingly, the post also included an image of the Meizu Pro 7, presumably to emphasize that it's the current 'latest and greatest' flagship from the Chinese company.
Yang Zhe was not mysterious regarding which device is he talking about, he did not beat around the bush at all, as he clearly mentioned the Meizu MX7 is the phone he’s talking about, which confirms that we’ll see the device out in the market, but much later than we’ve anticipated. Now, Meizu’s exec confirmed a while back that the company will announce its ‘bezel-less’ smartphone next year, and even though the Meizu PRO 8 is the first smartphone that comes to mind, the Meizu MX7 might be the first Meizu-branded smartphone to receive such a major design change.
The Meizu PRO 8 probably won’t launch until the second half of the year, so the Meizu MX7 could be the perfect phone to show off what Meizu can do in the design department. The Meizu PRO 7 and PRO 7 Plus arrived with a secondary display on the back, and that was quite a change for the company compared to its previous phones, well, it seems like Meizu is ready to take the next step.
The Meizu MX line of devices was once Meizu’s flagship line of smartphone, but that changed in the last couple of years, as the Meizu MX5 and Meizu MX6 were mid-range phones. Will Meizu MX7 bring back top of the line specs to the Meizu MX line of devices? Well, if it ends up being ‘bezel-free’, it is quite possible, but it’s also possible that it will occupy the higher-end mid-range territory.
The Meizu MX7 is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch display, MediaTek’s Helio P30 64-bit octa-core processor, It's said to feature a 21MP main camera and a 5MP front shooter. and it will probably be made out of metal. We have seen a number of different leaks regarding its design, but chances are that its real design did not surface just yet.
